Our Future Agenda Quarterly
July 2025

As we launch the second edition of Our Future Agenda Quarterly, we find ourselves at a crossroads of urgency and hope. In the few months since our inaugural issue, young people around the world have stepped further into the spotlight of global change – rallying communities, challenging leaders, and forging solutions.
This issue arrives on the heels of major milestones, from the UN Ocean Conference in Nice to the Financing for Development Conference in Sevilla, and ongoing preparations for the 2025 High-Level Political Forum. The message echoing from these stages is clear: the future is not something that just happens to us – it’s something we are collectively shaping, here and now. And young people are leading the charge with passion and purpose.
Over the next pages, you’ll discover five powerful narratives of youth action and intergenerational collaboration
First, “The Ocean is in Hot Water” plunges us into the fight for our blue planet, where young activists joined world leaders and scientists at the largest ocean summit ever to turn the tide on an ocean emergency. From climate-fueled coral bleaching to bold new treaties, this story shows how unity – from Pacific Island youth to heads of state – can ignite hope for our seas.
Next, “AI for Good” takes us to the frontiers of technology in Geneva, where teens and technocrats will come together to ensure AI becomes a force for good. In a world wary of rogue algorithms, we spotlight how youth innovators and the UN’s new global AI governance efforts are working hand-in-hand to harness tech for humanity’s benefit.
With five years left on the 2030 Agenda, our third chapter, “HLPF 2025”, examines how far we’ve come on the Sustainable Development Goals – and emphasizes intergenerational action in shaping those progress reviews. Young voices are helping write their countries’ Voluntary National Reviews ahead of the 2025 High-Level Political Forum, injecting reality and accountability into the world’s SDG report card.
Change is brewing in everyday moments, too, beyond the conferences and forums. “In the Loop”, our rapid roundup, translates SDGs into everyday realities, capturing how change happens from the ground up. From a viral climate campaign on social media to a surprise political cameo on a concert stage, these stories show intergenerational solidarity in action. The victories and culture moments of this past quarter remind us that progress isn’t confined to boardrooms; it’s alive on beaches, in classrooms, within movements, and even in memes and music.
Finally, “Future Remix” celebrates the creative revolution shaping global cooperation. Here we showcase how youth are reimagining the world through art, storytelling, and innovation – from an animated series debuting at the UN that demystifies global finance, to hip-hop and digital art that unite communities. These cultural expressions prove that imagination is a powerful tool in building understanding and hope across generations.
Together, these five chapters set an optimistic, determined tone for our shared journey. As you read through stories of young changemakers defending our oceans, coding a better future, holding their governments to account, and inspiring action through creativity, we invite you to see yourself in this narrative.
Our aim is to inform and ignite – to show that for every global challenge, there is a rising generation ready to meet it with ingenuity and courage.
— Our Future Agenda

The Ocean is in Hot Water
For a week in June, the French Riviera became the stage for what felt like a global season finale in the fight to save our oceans.
More than 10,000 people and 50 heads of state converged in Nice for the Third United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3) co-hosted by France and Costa Rica – the largest ocean summit ever. It drew delegates from over 120 countries, top scientists, indigenous leaders, business innovators, and a wave of passionate youth activists.
The goal? To turn the tide on what French President Emmanuel Macron called an ocean “emergency,” from climate-fueled coral bleaching to plastic pollution. “While the Earth is warming, the ocean is boiling,” Macron warned in his opening speech, citing marine heatwaves and rising seas that threaten to swallow coasts whole. His vivid metaphor made headlines – and wasn’t an exaggeration.
This past year, parts of the ocean spiked to temperatures scientists once thought impossible, and communities from Miami to Manila are scrambling to hold back higher tides. In his address, UN Secretary-General António Guterres underscored that “the distress signals are clear” – from plastic-choked waters to collapsing fish stocks – and implored governments to deliver on the promise of protecting the ocean.
It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by headlines of climate doom or ocean doom, to think the problem is too far gone or too big to handle. Yet, as the conference concluded, the story unfolding now is one of determination and hope. UNOC3 showed the world something powerful: when governments, young people, scientists, and communities come together, change is possible. The articles below show a glimpse of it – in new treaties, new funds, new alliances, and new voices are being heard to change the tide. The ocean has been too hot to handle, but with global unity and action, we just might cool it down – for the health of our planet.

AI For Good
When the Future Checks In
If you think artificial intelligence is all about evil robots, endless sci-fi reboots, and TikTok filters that guess your age (badly), think again. The AI for Good movement is rewriting that script. At the AI for Good Global Summit in Geneva this July, scientists, startups, and young coders teamed up to ask a different question: What if AI actually helped us fix the world?
Forget buzzwords – this was real talk. From bots that rescue earthquake survivors to brain-computer interfaces and AI tutors that speak multiple languages, the tech on display was as practical as it was futuristic. More than a tech trade show, the Summit was part solution lab, part ethics salon, part youth showcase. Think Comic-Con for code with a conscience.
The global vibe? “We need to get this right—together.” That’s why the UN’s Global Digital Compact and Hamburg Declaration are pushing for AI that’s fair, inclusive, and accountable—not just words. Because in a world still off-track to meet the SDGs, AI could be the force multiplier. This section explores how teens, tinkerers, and technocrats are shaping an AI future worth logging into.

HLPF 2025
Halfway to 2030 – A Milestone Moment for the SDGs
Welcome to our special coverage of the 2025 High-Level Political Forum (HLPF)– a milestone moment marking ten years since world leaders adopted the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 2015. It’s hard to believe we’re already a decade into this global journey for a better future.
Why is 2025 such a big deal? In short, the clock is ticking. With only five years left to achieve the SDGs, the world is taking stock of how far we’ve come and how far we still need to go. Consider this: according to the UN’s latest progress report, the world is on track or making "moderate" progress on 35% of the 137 SDG targets, but 47% of the targets show insufficient progress. Even more worrying, 18% of the targets have actually regressed from the 2015 baseline. These sobering stats make 2025’s forum both a report card and a wake-up call for humanity. It’s a moment to pat ourselves on the back and shake ourselves awake. As UN Secretary-General António Guterres warned, “Unless we act now, the 2030 Agenda will become an epitaph for a world that might have been.” In other words, we can’t afford to hit the snooze button on global progress.
Over the coming pages, we’ll be zooming in on SDG 3, 5 ,8 ,14 and 17 that are front and center at HLPF 2025. Each of these goals tells a story about our shared progress and challenges. And to truly bring those stories to life, this chapter mixes the serious with the inspiring. You’ll find a little bit of everything in our HLPF 2025 special edition: country commitments, youth action, creative storytelling, and even pop culture commentary that connects global goals to everyday life.

It’s a push "to make the UN better, to make it stronger," designed to streamline and energize how the UN tackles complex global issues. We explore why this matters for young people everywhere, and how these changes can make the UN fit for the future.
Next, step into the digital realm with The Economy Reboot, an animated series turning the global financial system into an epic adventure game. Follow 15-year-old coder Jacob as he confronts economic injustices, hacks old codes, and shows that anyone, no matter how young, can be a hero in creating a fairer financial future. We unpack how storytelling and tech are combining to inspire youth-led economic justice movements.
Finally, we decode the power of humor in activism with our Meme Mashup spread. From climate crisis commentary to gender equality quips and labor rights satire, memes are more than just laughs—they’re powerful, youth-driven tools for raising awareness, demanding accountability, and shaping public opinion about shared problems and solutions.
