Looking Ahead to 2024
with Our Future Agenda
As we look ahead to the future prospects facing young people and young countries in 2024, it is clear that we face many challenges.
However, we also have many reasons to be hopeful, as we work together towards the Summit of the Future.
By prioritizing intergenerational cooperation to tackle current and future challenges, we can ensure that young people across the world have access to the opportunities, resources, and support they need to thrive and create a better future for themselves and for generations to come.
Objective 1: Advocating for Intergenerational Cooperation in the UN
Our primary goal is to amplify political support and accountability for intergenerational cooperation within the UN. We plan to host informal dialogues with advocates for the next and future generations across the international system, including civil society and private sectors. We're also arranging a hybrid retreat to design the 2100 roadmap alongside the Unlock coalition and global champions, supported by a comprehensive consultation paper outlining the Road to 2100.
We will actively participate in global events, conferences, and forums, championing the needs and priorities of young people and emerging nations, with a particular focus on 2100 opportunities and risks. By strengthening ties with UN youth organizations and supporting networks like the African Union Youth Envoy’s, we aim to galvanize young leaders and foster support for international cooperation on priority issues.
Objective 2: Highlighting Current and Future Challenges for Young People
Our second objective is to spotlight the immediate and long-term challenges facing young people. We will develop and distribute creative digital content that emphasizes these issues, along with their aspirations for the future. Collaborating with experts in future scenario planning, we plan to evaluate current SDG progress and predict future trends, ensuring representation across age, sector, region, and gender.
We will also explore the potential for a story lab, allowing young creatives to express their challenges and needs, thereby enhancing public awareness and understanding.
Objective 3: Empowering Young People to Accelerate SDG Action
Our third objective is to empower young people to speed up SDG action. We plan to launch the 'Engine Room for the Future' as a platform for young change-makers to exchange ideas, connect with the global system, and learn from inspirational figures across generations and sectors.
We will also initiate the fourth 'Big Brainstorm' and host the 2022-2024 Next Generation Global Fellowship, kickstarting recruitment for 2025-2027 Fellows with links to G20 Summits in Brazil and South Africa. Finally, we will launch stage 2 of the funders collective, a collaborative mechanism to improve and unlock greater funding for young people to deliver on the SDGs at a local and grassroots level.
Our plans for 2024 will aim to achieve significant progress towards creating a more equitable and sustainable future for young people worldwide.
Through intergenerational cooperation, increased political support and accountability, and empowerment of young people, we believe we can make strong strides towards creating a better world that caters to the needs and aspirations of current and future generations.
